Privacy Policy

Word Hook is a mobile app that teaches Spanish words with memory techniques. This page explains how the app handles your data. In short: we do not collect your name, your e-mail or anything that identifies you; we only keep anonymous usage statistics to improve the app.
Data we collect
The app has no accounts, sign-in or ads. We do not collect your name, e-mail address, location, contacts or advertising ID, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
To improve the app we collect only anonymous usage statistics:
- Which step was completed (introduction, daily words, review, tests, memory report) and their counts (how many words, how many correct answers, which day).
- The level and daily word count you choose, and whether you turn reminders on.
- Whether the purchase screen was opened and the result of a purchase (started, completed, failed). Payment details never reach us.
- App version, phone model, operating system version and technical error logs of the app.
- Any text you choose to write in the feedback box. Your name or e-mail address is not requested; we recommend not writing personal information in the text.
Which words you learn, and what you type or search for, is not sent. These statistics are kept under a random installation number generated on your phone; this number is not linked to your name, e-mail or account, and it is deleted from the phone when you uninstall the app. Your IP address is not stored with the statistics.
The statistics are processed on our behalf by PostHog on servers in the European Union (PostHog privacy policy). They are not used for advertising or marketing and are not sold to anyone.
Information stored on your phone
Which words you have learned, review dates, your streak counter and your settings are stored only in the app database on your phone. This information itself is not sent to any server (apart from the anonymous numbers above). When you uninstall the app, it is deleted too. If your phone’s own backup feature (Google or iCloud backup) is on, this information may be included in your phone’s backup; we cannot access that backup. Once the purchase is made, you can also delete it yourself with “Reset progress” on the Settings screen.
The only exception is on iPhone: the numbers of the words opened with your free allowance are also kept in your phone’s Keychain and stay on the device even if you uninstall the app. The purpose is that the free allowance does not start over when you delete and reinstall the app. This record contains no name or identity and is never sent to any server.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, the notification is scheduled by your phone itself. No server is used for this; you can turn the permission off at any time in your phone settings.
Pronunciation
Words are played with the recordings inside the app and, for text without a recording, with your phone’s own text-to-speech engine. The app sends no data for this; the behavior of the text-to-speech engine is subject to the privacy terms of your phone’s manufacturer.
Version check
When it opens, the app (Android and iPhone) reads a small file at kelimekancasi.com/surum.json to find out whether the version you use is still supported. No personal data or progress information is sent with this request; only, by the nature of an internet connection, your IP address may appear in the server logs of GitHub, which hosts the site. If there is no internet, the check is skipped and the app works normally.
Purchase
Part of the app is free; the remaining words are unlocked with a one-time purchase on Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iPhone). The payment is handled entirely by the respective store; your card or payment details never reach us. The app only receives from the store whether this account has made the purchase and stores that on your phone. Purchases are subject to the privacy policy of Google or Apple.
Website
This website (kelimekancasi.com) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics only to see how many people visit. This tool does not use cookies, does not track you across sites and does not collect personal data; only aggregate information that does not reveal your identity is kept, such as page view counts, country, browser type and the link from which the site was reached. The anonymous statistics inside the app are described above, in the “Data we collect” section.
Third parties
The anonymous usage statistics are processed on our behalf by PostHog, as described above. Other than that, the app does not share your data with any third party. The app is distributed through Google Play and the App Store; downloads and updates are subject to Google’s and Apple’s own privacy policies.
Age
The app is designed for users aged 13 and over and does not collect identifying data from any age group.
Changes
If this policy changes, the current version will be published on this page and the date above will be updated. If the scope of the data collected changes, this page will be updated beforehand.
